ASAI - JARA 25 Trip to Japan

August 20- 27, 2005 (Tentative Schedule)
Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka

Nearly 20 years ago, ASAI previously had a delegation of members who traveled to Japan and had an extraordinary time. Visits to Tokyo, Osaka, & Kyoto were highlighted with visits to the old Imperial Villa, historic sites, shrines and temples, museums, modern architecture by Maki, Ando, Tange, and Takamatsu, with stays in traditional inns, viewing of festivals, enlivened dinners with JARA hosts in famous districts of these cities. Japan is usually quite hot in August, but there are always trees and gallerias for shade and air-conditioned spaces in public areas; and the cicada chirping is strong everywhere. Evenings can be hot or cool. The subways and train system is excellent, and always on time, with signage, graphics and maps fairly easy to understand, even in Japanese. In making their firm accessible to us, Nikken Sekkei is the largest architectural design firm in the country, and one of the biggest in the world, and as with most firms, have rendering departments employing some of our ASAI/ JARA members. Japan has an exotic blend of strong traditional customs, mixed with all the modern trappings, making it an exciting, memorable place.

For comfort and cost, it would be preferable to stay in the above host hotels, and inform of us your choice(s).
