Home - The American Society of Architectural Illustrators (ASAI)

Welcome

The American Society of Architectural Illustrators (ASAI), is a non-profit international professional organization of architectural illustrators, whose goals are to foster communication among architectural illustrators, to raise the standards of architectural illustration and to acquaint the public with the importance of such drawing as integral to the practice of architecture.

NEW - Online forum available

A new sub-forum has been established on the Cgarchitect forum as a way to foster discussion among the various formal architectural illustration organizations around the world as well as the general public.

To post or respond to messages does require registration on the Cgarchitect site but it is completely free to do so.

A big thanks to Jeff Mottle for offering up the space

BOOK REVIEW
DRAWING SHORTCUTS
Developing quick drawing skills using todays technology.

Reviewed by Nigel Gough
Drawing Shortcuts" reinforces the notion that the hand drawn line is still relevant and exciting in the practice of architecture, that the ongoing success of yesterdays purely ”traditional” architectural artists can be seen in their ability to reinvent themselves, applying well honed skills in new ways to address a changing market, and at the same time to be innovative and integrate new technology... essential reading in any architectural educational program... and for the practicing architectural artist it is a great grab bag of fresh ideas...

Detail of the L.H.Barker Lewger Parlour, St John's Site Museum. Every item in the composition has supported historical evidence.

"Painting the past vs. painting the future"
Les Barker is often asked if there is a difference between creating traditional architectural illustrations (depicting what will be or what is) and creating interpretive historical illustrations (depicting what was). Authors Groups Meet in Oslo
10.22.09

OSLO, NORWAY Over 60 authors organizations met here this week to discuss strategies for defending authors' rights in the digitized world. Their call to action is reminiscent of the grassroots coalition that came together in the US last year to oppose the Orphan Works bill.
In addition to concerns over anti-copyright legislation, authors around the world, including visual artists, face threats from piracy, unauthorized usage, all-rights contracts and, in the US, the loss and/or dissipation of their reprographic royalties. To read more click here
